Picasso's 'Seated Women with Wrist Watch'

The was our final project of the year for our little class (5-6 year olds). Throughout the year we learned a lot about observational drawing, painting, and training our fine motor skills. It thought a Picasso project, which involves all of the above, would suit a final project well. And who doesn't LOVE Picasso!?

We looked at several of his portraits and analyzed his use of shape, his face profiles and how his figures look "unrealistic". We then chose to draw Seated Women with Wrist Watch (1932). This was an exercise in observational drawing and in color matching. I led by drawing on the white board while the kids followed my guidance AND closely looked at their Picasso print-out. We traced in black permanent marker, painted in watercolor and added some fine detail with white paint pens.

These little guys have come a long way since we started in the fall, as their work today really proves. I'm so proud!! Beautiful work!!

This was completed in one 90 minute session.
